The first week of classes for the spring semester of 2018 was a busy one in Chapel Hill! News spread of an important breakthrough UNC’s researchers made in the lab, a powerful reminder in the form of the AIDS Memorial Quilt went on display in the Carolina Union and the Tar Heel football team announced some big changes coming to Kenan Stadium. - Chancellor Carol L. Folt welcomed back students, faculty and staff with updates on exciting news that happened over winter break while looking forward to the semester ahead.
- Wednesday’s first day of classes meant students were again taking good-luck sips from the Old Well and spending downtime in The Pit and on Polk Place.
- Game-changing research from scientists in the UNC School of Medicine shows a path toward making pain-relieving opioids without the severe side effects now at the heart of the opioid epidemic.
- Carolina student Elizabeth Trefney arranged for a panel of the AIDS Memorial Quilt to be displayed on campus through January in memory of her uncle.
- Individual chair back seats are coming to Kenan Stadium! Carolina Athletics will install the seats and have them ready for the fall season to create a more comfortable and fan-friendly game day experience.
